What is the reason my front-load washer smells?

What can I do about it?

To keep track of industry trends, I subscribed to Consumer Reports. It was quite surprising to see some of the reviews on front-load washers. I have been an owner of an appliance repair business for more than 23 years and can answer your questions.

Some of the harshest reviews were directed at consumers’ PERSONAL brands, which they considered to be problematic. Some of these charges were unfounded, and others were way out of line.

Because they load from the front, washers with front-loading capacity have an airtight seal. Front-load washers must have their doors open between cycles. Otherwise, mold will grow, and the smelly starts. This is not an issue with only certain brands. All brands have this problem! A bleach load with hotwater will help if you catch it in time. The boot seal, the rubber gasket that surrounds the door, must be replaced once the mold has spread. There is no way to remove permeated mold, as far as we know. A monthly acid-wash is recommended!

It is essential that you use the right soap. Use a soap with a high efficiency rating (HE). This is a fact that cannot be ignored. Look out for the HE symbol in the box. Don’t waste your time and get the right soap. Some of the more environmentally conscious brands have disappointed us. These brands and bargain brands have had a lot of problems with over-foaming. We love Tide powder and Kirkland powder. Of course, HE! Forget the large scooper in the box. It will take just two tablespoons. Really! Continue reading for more suggestions.

Toss the liquid HE soap. We have discovered that soap scum can cause a smell problem. Yuck!) Build-up under the boot seal. If you find a black ring underneath the boot seal, you will have to scrape it off. Some washers have been experiencing build-up due to liquid soaps made from animal fat bases (yuck again).

Follow your nose!

Examine UNDER the boot seal. If the model allows, you can remove it right there at the front. You may find a small item, such as a sock, under the model. It happened to me and it is what I do for my living! !

Pay attention to the trap! Some brands/models have their very own traps for collecting lint, spare money, or whatever else. It can get very stinky. Are you unsure if there is a trap? You can check your owner’s manual, or go online to the manufacturer’s site. If you don’t have your model number handy, it will not be of much assistance.

Is there something wrong? It could be that something is stuck in your pump. It could be a stuck item in your pump. It may be draining, but it is not as bad as it used to be. Who watches the time? Your drain pump might have a blockage. Call a professional if this is the case. It is better to find it quickly and have us clear the pump instead of letting it ruin the pump. It makes a big difference in the repair costs.

The soaps are changing! This one is a result of the EPA. Recent changes in detergents have resulted in a decrease of trustworthiness. Continue reading for more information!

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS

For each bleachable load, add a tablespoon of OxyClean inside the drum. This will ensure that your whites remain whiter and your drum stays fresh.

* Mix 1 Tablespoon OxyClean with 2 Tablespoons soap. This is

A tried-and-trusted method that works well.

*If you see white residue, it is likely that you are dealing with calcium buildup. You can blast it out with a citric acid solution that we offer. It can also be used with your dishwasher. It is safe for the environment and pipes. It is also not strong enough to discredit the Tang theory. All that sugar is a waste. There are many other products available. Although not as strong as our product, it might still work.

Have fun washing!
