How to Clean Your Oven with Vinegar Steam

It’s not everyone’s idea of fun. Cleaning an oven is a tedious and unpleasant task that requires a lot of elbow grease. This task is often put off, which only makes the problem worse. It doesn’t have be that way. You can save a lot of time cleaning your oven by using vinegar steam.

Here are the steps: Vinegar Steam Cleanse Your Oven

Step 1: Soak the Grates

Remove your oven grates before you do anything else. Soak them in hot, soapy water. We recommend Simple Green, a non-toxic all-purpose cleaner that can remove stains. Let them sit for at least an hour, then scrub any residue off with a scrubber or steel wool pad.

Step 2: Clean up any debris.

This will make it much easier later. You can use a standard vacuum with a nozzle attachment or a hand-held vacuum.

Step 3: Reinstall the bottom oven rack.

Re-position the freshly cleaned bottom oven rack. Place it in the middle of the oven.

Step 4: Make vinegar solution.

In an ovenproof dish, make a vinegar solution consisting of 1 part vinegar to 1 part distilledwater.

Step 5: Place vinegar solution on the bottom rack and heat oven at 250 degrees Fahrenheit Now, let the vinegar do its work. Turn the oven on to 250°F. Let it bubble, steam, then let it sit for a while. This will break down any build-up of grime.

Step 6: Spray vinegar solution onto the oven’s interior.

Turn your oven off after the dish has been steaming for a while. Take off your gloves and take the dish, and the rack, out of the oven. Spray the vinegar and water mixture inside the oven, taking care not to burn yourself. Let the solution sit for 30 minutes before closing the door.

Step 7: After the oven has cooled, wipe it down.

After your oven has cooled to the touch, use a damp sponge to wipe it clean. Most, if no longer all, of the stubborn spots should be removed fairly quickly.

Bonus Step: Use baking soda, vinegar or lemon to scrub stubborn stains.

The baking soda mixture can be combined with a steel wool pad or heavy-duty scrubber to give you a little more power against stubborn stains.
